The whole process of search engine optimization (SEO) is for search engine ranking. What then is search engine ranking and how does it affect visibility.
WHAT IS SEARCH ENGINE RANKING
Search engine Ranking is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s organic result. In-other words, its the process of showing up on search engine result page (SERP) that therefore help generates traffic.
Types of Search Engines
We have discussed what search engine ranking is, what then are the types of search engines available. There are dozens of search engine but I would list just the top 6 search engines.
These are the platforms needed to rank your website or particular web-page on. But how then do search engine works?
HOW SEARCH ENGINES DO WORK.
A search engine makes use of a program called “Spider” Ooh! Sorry I mean “Web Crawler”.
This so called web crawler or spider browses the web and stores information about the pages it visits.
Each time a spider “web crawler” visits a web-page or website, it makes a copy of it and adds its URL to an index. Once this is done, the web crawler follows all the links on the page, repeating the process of copying, indexing and then following the links. It keeps doing this, building up a huge index of many web-pages as it goes.
The information the web crawler puts together is then used by search engines. It becomes the search engine index (Indexed) meaning it can appear on search engine result page.
Google been the most popular search engine and used search engine in the world has it ranking factors, which takes us to the next topic.

This list is ‘ranked’ with the most useful and relevant website/web-pages from the highest to lowest on the search result page.
